Emotionally Focused Therapy

Validated by 35 years of scientific research, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) is one of the most effective approaches to reducing couple distress and creating lasting and loving relationships. Research has found that more than 7 out of 10 couples who received EFT move from distress to recovery. And about 9 out of 10 couples show significant improvements.

EFT reflects the most recent research on the nature of relationship distress and satisfaction and is utilized across North America and internationally in more than 20 countries. Although the majority of the research has been with couples, an increasing body of studies show that EFT is effective to use with individuals and families as well. This because it is based on attachment science which speaks to the broader emotional bonds and connections we have with loved ones in our lives.

Relationship distress is not necessarily due to conflict, but rather, the conflict is due to a lack of an emotional connection and failed attempts at reconnecting.

EFT provides empirically validated interventions and processes that de-escalate the negative communication and interaction cycle, repair attachment injuries, and repair and deepen relationship bonds.

The goal of therapy is not just conflict resolution, but to create a secure bond where you feel connected, close, safe and loved.

a secure bond where you feel connected, close, safe and loved.

Humanistic approaches such as EFT are collaborative and respectful. EFT is non-pathologizing; we do not conceptualize in terms of problems or types. We create a safe and nurturing space for people and treat them as persons, not an illness or issue.

The core values of EFT are inclusive and egalitarian. We connect with all persons through our shared human experience which we view as sacred — something to be honored and cultivated. We recognize shared key universals such as emotion and attachment while simultaneously validating and respecting individual differences.
